The photographs at full size
Skansen began as Artur Hazelius's rescue project in 1891 — a hillside in Stockholm where
farms, storehouses, summer cottages and gardens from across Sweden were rebuilt so that
visitors could step straight into an earlier way of life. Edenheim guides you through all
of it, and in this large-format printing the photographs that accompany him are given the
most generous treatment of any edition. Small things start to matter: the brushwork on a
painted wall, the grain in centuries-old timber, the cool northern light falling through a
farmhouse window.
Spread over 128 pages at 26 × 26 cm, this is the heaviest of the three printings at around
885 grams — exactly what you'd expect from the most lavish of the set. In practice, the
size and weight are also the quickest way to be certain you're holding this edition and not
the lighter softcover, since the covers can otherwise look much the same.
Who it's for
- Photo-book lovers who want the imagery printed as large as it goes.
- Coffee-table readers who like a book that makes a statement on display.
- Gift-givers after the most striking version of the title to hand over.
Our take
Choose this edition when the visual experience is the whole point. It's the copy we'd set
out on a coffee table or wrap as a special gift, simply because the photographs carry the
most impact at this size. Use the button above to check the current Amazon price and weigh
